On the surface, it would appear that Final Fantasy Tactics is a step back from Final Fantasy VII, given its more cartoonish and sprite-like graphics and radically changed gameplay style. Final Fantasy VII blew our minds, expanding the scope of what an RPG could be. Early Final Fantasy titles such as Final Fantasy IV and VI pushed the boundaries for what was possible for role-playing games in terms of storytelling and character development.
